Whale Watching Caravan

A woman in a boat smiles as she reaches out to touch the head of a gray whale, whose mottled grey skin is visible in the blue-green water.

A three-day escape to San Ignacio Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage site on Baja’s Pacific coast and one of the only places on earth where wild gray whales come right up to the boats to be touched. Mornings are spent on the water in pangas getting eye-to-eye with mothers and calves; the rest of the day is for desert sunsets, shared meals, and some of the darkest night skies you’ll ever see. Eco-camp lodging right on the lagoon is available for those who want to stay close to the action. Whether you’re a lifelong whale nerd or just here for a once-in-a-lifetime encounter, it’s a weekend built around getting up close with the bay’s gentle giants.

Whale watching fee: $365 USD
